I used to work in music and I’ve also always been a huge live music fan so I have a few celebrity encounters in my memory bank. Today, I share with you what it’s like to dance on stage with Vince Neil while he sings “Girls! Girls! Girls!”
The first thing you should do is to remove the picture in your head of an arena and replace it with a bowling alley. It was a Vince Neil solo show – post Motley Crue heyday and pre comeback tour. I can only imagine his mood was pretty terrible looking out at the 47 people who’d come to see him but were mostly chatting with each other about how short he is in person.
It was a sad-ish show. But I happened to have a cocktail in my hand and be with one of my best friends (who is a HUGE hair band fan) so we were having plenty of fun.
Just before “Girls, Girls, Girl!” a DJ we knew from the sponsoring radio station asked if we wanted to go on stage with some other girls and dance around during the number. My friend demured. Me + vodka? SURE, I WILL!
The willing dancers were held on the side of the small stage (in a bowling ally, I’m not kidding) while he started the song and during some interlude, they sent us out to dance. I tend to get inside of myself when I dance so there I was in the middle of the stage, in somebody’s spotlight, just twirling around happily when Vince Neil stomped his tiny little self up into my shadow and elbowed me right out of his way as he began to sing again.
I mean, he literally just jabbed his elbow into my hipbone (because he’s short – get it?) and pushed me several feet to the side so he could step back into his spotlight.
How funny is that?
I laughed my ass off right there on the stage. And my friend and I still laugh about it. So this one’s for you, KK.
Do you have a funny celebrity encounter to tell me about? Please, please do! And come back, because I have several more to share.
Pop over to Bonbon Break to read my (rather serious) post about being a happy fool.
And the awesomely talented Johi of Confessions of a Cornfed girl interviewed me here.
Find out how to get my books, including the new “I Just Want To Be Alone” (which has a story about my husband who used to be a rocker himself) in it here.

Don’t rely on Facebook because they’re showing less and less bloggers’ posts to their fans (they want us to pay which we can’t do). Oooh, share your G. Love story and I’ll share mine! Can’t wait to hear it
