When I reached my 30s I noticed a strange thing start to happen.  I started sneezing and getting watery eyes in the Spring.  This had never happened to me before and when one of my sassy-talking friends said, “You’ve got allergies, dumb-ass,” I thought, I don’t have allergies.

Combatting #AllergyFace with makeup tips from @jamiemakeup & ZyrtecCorrection:  I didn’t have allergies.  Now I do.  Thanks, aging.  Yet another reason you suck.

And they got worse and became year round. Now I just take ZYRTEC® every single morning, right along with my vitamin.

It really takes care of the issue for the most part, although nothing has the power to completely clear up every single problem when the pollen is really flying.

I will occasionally still get watery itchy eyes during high season and maybe I’m just vain, but I can’t stand what it does to my makeup.Combatting #AllergyFace with makeup tips from @jamiemakeup & Zyrtec

I tweeted with ZYRTEC® celebrity makeup artist Jamie Greenberg (@JamieMakeup) about this and she tweeted right back (!!) and suggested waterproof eyeliner.  I’m an eyeliner fanatic – it’s my deserted-island makeup (you know, if you were being sent to a deserted island and could only take one piece of makeup – please don’t get into why would I need makeup on a deserted island, I just would because … makeup), but I didn’t even realize they made waterproof eyeliner. Duh!  This is her awesome suggestion for my ALLERGY FACE® problem.Combatting Allergy Face with makeup tips by @jamiemakeup

I love it and it’s the look I rock just about everyday (although I tone down the cat eye part of it for, ya know, picking up the kids from summer camp). You can find more of her awesome makeup tips for allergy sufferers here. Her tips help combat ALLERGY FACE® problems like red noses and puffy faces too.

For more tips and information (like how to tell the difference between allergies and a cold), go check out the ZYRTEC® website.

But first, tell me – am I the last one to know they make waterproof everything these days? And what’s your favorite waterproof eyeliner?  I’m still experimenting and would love recommendations.

  1. I’m a big fan of the Urban Decay 24/7 pencils!

    • I love those – have a whole set. I didn’t know they were supposed to be waterproof. Looks like I was doing it right after all. Maybe I just need to let them set a few minutes before I go about my business.

  2. Years ago I read that allergies were supposed to get better as you got older. Therefore, when I developed allergies a couple of years ago, I concluded I was getting younger. I stand by this assertion. (Even though I know I’m just kidding myself.)
